Guide
Abstract
This how-to guide offers insight into the challenges of explicitly and appropriately considering gender in user experience research. The guide offers specific suggestions and guidance for: (1) identifying and ensuring that gender is appropriately considered and represented; (2) identifying risks with conducting research with a particular audience, specifically related to gender; and (3) analysing and categorising gender data for use during the first phase of the design research process (empathise phase). With a focus on both challenges and ultimate implications of not identifying the correct audience, this guide acts as an initial toolkit for researchers, students, and practitioners of user experience when conducting online user research for use in digital projects.
