Ethnographic Film

Abstract

As cameras become less and less expensive and more user-friendly, as computer software continues to make the video editing process easier, and as video-sharing platforms grow pervasively in the daily life of people around the world, more and more researchers make the decision to turn to film as a key element of their studies. Yet, the genres and potential of ethnographic film are not always well-understood. This entry examines the changing identity of ethnographic film, discussing the evolution of its content, form, styles, scopes, and dissemination channels.
