Frequently Asked Questions for Faculty

Why should I link to the platform when I can just download the PDF?

There are a host of features on SRM content pages that enhance learning and the reading experience for users, which are not available in the PDF.

Readers can easily jump between chapters using the chapters tab, rather than downloading individual PDFs for each chapter. You can also quickly and easily search for specific terms and concepts within the whole book using the “Find in this book” search bar.

Each content page also contains a variety of tools, allowing readers to quickly cite the text, add it to an SRM reading list, share it via social media/email, and to change the text format for enhanced accessibility.

Why can't I access content with a padlock symbol?

You will see padlock symbols next to content for two possible reasons. You may not be logged in through your university’s library, and therefore access will not be granted. The best way to access the content in Sage Research Methods is to browse for the database in your library’s catalogue.

Alternatively, there may be padlocks next to resources that your university does not subscribe to. For example, you may see padlock symbols next to all datasets, indicating that your university does not have access to this resource. If this occurs, and you would like to use the padlocked resource, you can sign up for a free trial for 30-day access to these resources. If you think the resource is valuable, please recommend it to your librarian.
