Alternative Hypothesis
The hypothesis that opposes the null hypothesis is commonly called the alternative. It is usually the research, or dominant, hypothesis. Suppose, for example, the research hypothesis is that sugar consumption is related to hyperactivity in children. That hypothesis, HA, is an alternative to the null, H0, that sugar consumption is not related to hyperactivity.
