Entries A-Z
an uninterrupted series of one or more identical events in a sequence of events which is followed and preceded by different events or no events. For example, the following sequence of heads (H) and tails (T), HHTHH, contains a run of two heads, followed by a run of one tail and a run of two heads. The total number of runs in the sequence of events indicates whether the sequence of events is likely to be random. A run would indicate non-randomness. For example, the following sequence of heads and tails, HHH-HTTTT, consists of two runs and suggests that each event is grouped together and not random.
