This dataset is designed for learning to use Yates’ Correction. The dataset is a subset of data derived from the 2017 American National Election Study (ANES, 2017), and the example tests whether there is an association between how important religion is in an individual’s life and whether an individual has volunteered in the past 12 months. The dataset file is accompanied by a Teaching Guide, a Student Guide, and a How-to Guide for R.

Sample/sampling procedures

The ANES 2016 Time Series is a dual-mode survey (face-to-face and Internet) with two independent samples. Cases selected for the face-to-face sample could not be interviewed on the Internet, and cases selected for the Internet survey could not be interviewed in person. The Internet sample was drawn from panel members of GfK Knowledge Networks. The face-to-face sample used an address-based, stratified, multi-stage cluster sample in 125 census tracts.
