Thematic Analysis of Interview Data in the Context of Management Controls Research

By: Published: 2019 | Product: SAGE Research Methods Datasets Part 2

This dataset is designed for studying the thematic analysis of interview data, by Sujeewa Damayanthi of the Postgraduate Institute of Management, Sri Lanka. The data are drawn from a case study on “Design and implementation of management controls in an apparel organization.” Management controls (for example, budgeting, performance management systems, etc.) refer to approaches and mechanisms that aim to regulate the behavior of members of an organization. This study explores how the design and implementation of management controls in an organization take shape in the face of external influences and internal organizational dynamics. Its objective is twofold: to elaborate on how management controls of an organization are influenced by the pressures of the organizational environment and on the internal dynamics (organizational culture and values and interests of key actors of the organization) of the particular organization. This dataset is based on the first part of the research aim and its related data, and the analysis is based on a thematic analysis. The dataset file is accompanied by a Teaching Guide and a Student Guide.
