This dataset is designed for teaching the Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient. The dataset is a subset of data derived from the Consolidated State Performance Report from the U.S. Department of Education. It looks specifically at the correlation between the percentage of high school students who were proficient in science and the percentage of high school students who are proficient in reading in 2011–2012 across all 50 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The dataset file is accompanied by a teaching guide, a student guide, and a how-to guide for SPSS.
