Talking About Illness: Reflections on Conducting Qualitative Research in the National Health Service

Abstract

This case study discusses aspects of one study that was completed as part of my wider PhD, due for completion in January 2017. It provides an overview of the process of gaining ethical approval for a National Health Service–based study and discusses issues arising regarding data collection and analysis. I also reflect upon the opportunities and challenges of this type of research and the role of clinician and health professional as researcher.
