Abstract

Using a systematic approach, the Cultural Health and Screening Mammography Belief Scale (CHSMBS) was developed to investigate why Asian women have lower rates of screening mammography utilization and how to improve their use of screening mammography. This case study describes the four stages involved in the CHSMBS scale development and discusses the lessons learned in the process. Although the development of a scale in a cultural context is complicated, the step-by-step instruction outlined in this case study provides junior researchers with a framework to develop their own scale.
