Case
Abstract
This case study provides an account of my dissertation research project. I explain the design, execution, and writing stages of my research and how the interaction of my identity with the features of the field site affected the evolution of my research from design to completion. Particularly, I share experiences about conducting semi-structured in-depth interviews on a politically sensitive topic in a politically polarized atmosphere. My experiences suggest that for succeeding as a researcher in politically polarized research fields, it is essential to find appropriate initial contacts, build up trust with the interviewees, and adopt a pragmatist attitude throughout the interview process.
