Using Remote Communication Technology and Digital Tools to Conduct a Qualitative Interview Study With Forced Migrants: Venezuelan Women’s Access to Healthcare in Peru

Abstract

Venezuelan migrant and refugee women in Peru have limited access to services. I designed a qualitative interview study to understand how Venezuelan migrant and refugee women access reproductive health services, including contraception, amid their restrictions. This study was conducted from the United States, due to COVID-19 and other personal limitations on travel. I will describe the strategies I used to conduct this project remotely, including establishing local connections, finding research support, recruiting participants using WhatsApp, conducting interviews through Skype, and managing incentives remotely.
