Abstract
The Harris County, Texas, USA, government currently does not have in place a county-wide requirement or procedure to consider the public’s health prior to making any policy, program, or project decisions. The Harris County Public Health Department’s Built Environment & Health Impact Assessment Unit engaged Rice University students to identify and examine potential approaches to incorporate health in decision-making processes to address this gap. By conducting a literature review, compiling a matrix of existing models, and interviewing experts from different areas, the study team was able to provide major themes to Harris County Public Health Department regarding the issues and recommendations to help bring health considerations to the decision-making table.
