Abstract

This study focuses on second-year experience programs and highlights the story of 11 students from one second-year cohort as well as my own reflections in order to add professional-focus institutions into dialogue on the second year of college. Once I establish the gaps in research and the need for this study, I focus on developing my rationale for my choice of methodology. This study uses crystallization, which is the weaving of two or more genres together to form a cohesive story of a lived experience. I provide examples of crystallization through my findings and discuss challenges and benefits of this emerging methodology. Finally, I end with recommendations for strengthening the second-year program at one institution and discuss how crystallization helped formulate the findings and discussion.
