Executive leadership interests foreign policy scholars, but how does one quantitatively study an institution that has few cases? My research presents one way to empirically address the dilemma through quantitative analytic research methodology and use of multivariate regression analysis. This case discusses the “small-N” problem in executive studies, specifically, and describes a coding technique. It also invites readers to consider additional research techniques that might be used.
