Repression is said to be an immature defense mechanism, but I strongly recommend it. I must have committed countless research mistakes, but my inner censor has scrubbed my record clean, leaving a memory bank that is rich in remembered success and poor in error. However, as Freud explained, the occasional uncomfortable truth finds its way past the forces of repression and into awareness. When it does so, as in dreams, it often appears in disguised form.
