INTRODUCTORY CASE: Choosing survey software for the Dutch Leisure Panel
One major issue for the design of our Leisure Panel was which survey software to work with. Our university had developed its own survey software, which was available for free. The software was very basic and looked a little outdated, but it was free and IT staff could implement new survey tools on demand. Professional software was fancy and contained many features, but it was expensive and we would always be dependent on an external agency in case of any problems we might run into. Open source survey software such as Lime Survey did not seem to be a good option, since the survey still needed to be hosted.
