In this chapter I suggest how researchers might set about preparing themselves to be open and attentive to the sensory ways of knowing, categories, meanings, moralities and practices of others. This raises a series of questions originating in the approaches and perspectives discussed in previous chapters, concerning what kinds of self-awareness, technologies and epistemologies might equip us well for this task. It involves asking: What is the sensory ethnographer seeking to find out? What are the implications of ‘researcher subjectivity’? How does one choose a method?
