Doing Qualitative Analysis
In Chapter Eleven we explored contrasting frameworks for qualitative analysis, but also those elements that are shared across different approaches. We considered ways in which we may anticipate and prepare for analysis. In this chapter we approach the details of doing analysis.
Following a reminder of the ambiguity that often surrounds talk of qualitative analysis, we outline and illustrate how analysis takes place within the range of fieldwork methods we discussed in Chapters Seven through Ten. We compare thematic and narrative analysis, and then consider ethnography and the analysis of texts and documents. We widen our scope slightly to include also visual methods and secondary qualitative analysis.
