So far, we have focused on ethical treatment of research subjects. While rare, some researchers have been known to cheat when it comes to conducting research. This is known as falsifying or fabricating their data. This is also unethical and covered by the IRB.

Fabrication is the literal making up of data. Rather than collecting data, a researcher might just create a dataset.
