How Are “Other Specify” Responses Coded?

Other specify” response options in questions allow more flexibility for participants. Some categories are given, but one category is open, allowing participants to say whatever they want. An example would be Q3 below asking about race. If none of the given categories apply, participants can choose the “other” box and then write in what that other is.
