Excel can be used to compute measures of central tendency by following these steps. The data represent 50 scores on an achievement test ranging from 70 to 100 (out of a possible 100).

  • Click the Data tab and then click the Data Analysis option.
  • Double-click on the Descriptive Statistics option in the Data Analysis dialog box.
  • Define the Input Range and the Output Range. Also click Labels in first row and the Summary statistics box, as you see in Figure 16.1.
  • Click OK and you will see results of the analysis, as shown in Figure 16.2.
