Its primary purpose is to generate understanding and insights in order to gain knowledge and inform professional practice, policy development, and community or social action. Case study research is typically extensive; it draws on multiple methods of data collection and involves multiple data sources. This method culminates in the production of a detailed description of a setting and its participants, accompanied by an analysis of the data for themes, patterns, and issues.
