Significance

Significance denotes that something is meaningful and of importance. Although significance tests can be used in different ways, statistical significance typically indicates the probability that a relationship among variables as large or larger as that found in a sample could have been drawn randomly from a population in which there is no relationship. In education and other fields, statistical significance has traditionally been the main focus, referring to a designation based on a dichotomous decision rule to reject or fail to reject a null hypothesis that there is not a relationship among variables in a population.
