Performance Research

Performance research is a qualitative methodology that involves the subject matter and method of the experiencing body situated in time, place, and history. The performance paradigm requires a more direct experience rather than abstract or reductive encounters, primarily through facework. Performance research is largely reflexive and encompassing of various cultural and critical contexts. Often coinciding with ethnography and/or autoethnography, performance research breaks away from traditional research methods in that performance is not only interested in the object of study but also the mode of the process.
