KIRSTEN: How am I going to get this done?My summer is going to be ruined.[MUFFLED CHATTER]

  • 01:06

ALVIN: To help you with your work, Giulianaand I have brought you two snacks to choose from.Your first option is rich and complex carbohydrates, proteins, dietary fiber, and micro-nutrients.

  • 01:19

GUILIANA: And the other is 42% sugars, 21% carbohydrates, and 11% fat.

  • 01:27

ALVIN: That is so bogus.Enjoy tooth decay.

  • 01:30

GUILIANA: You can't guilt them into eating healthy, Alvin.People like what tastes good, and 42% sugar tastes good.

  • 01:37

ALVIN: Edamome tastes really good, too.

  • 01:38

    KIRSTEN: Edamome, give me.

  • 01:40

GUILIANA: Doesn't count though, Alvin. She didn't use them when she had the chance.

  • 01:43

ALVIN: I need to figure out a wayto get people to try good food, so that they'll choose it lateron their own.

  • 01:49

GUILIANA: That sounds like a research project.

  • 01:51

ALVIN: You actually think I can do this as a summer researchproject?

  • 01:55

GUILIANA: Why not?All you have to do is write up a proposalfor the review committee.[THUNDER CLAP]

  • 02:00

KIRSTEN: Will you guys be quiet.I am trying to get some work done here.

  • 02:03

ALVIN: The sugar has turned you into an angry person, Kirsten.

  • 02:07

KIRSTEN: I'm really stressed about this Lit review. My professor gave me a list of articles to read, but he also told me to look at the citationsand the references. And now there's so much here, and I haveno idea what to do with it all.You seem to be doing really well. How did you learn how do I all this grant stuff?

  • 02:26

GUILIANA: Well, when I had that meeting with a faculty member,I met this cowboy behind a plant that I was hiding. But I have no idea where he came--

  • 02:33

    ALVIN: Wait, what?

  • 02:35

KIRSTEN: After all the help I gave you,you expect me to believe some cowboy helped you? That's it, I'm out of here.

  • 02:42

    GUILIANA: I'm serious, Kirsten.

  • 03:12

    SPEAKER 4: Book igloo.Nice.

  • 03:14

KIRSTEN: How did you get in here?

  • 03:16

SPEAKER 4: I know how you got here.Got stuck on your Lit review.Don't worry, it's not so bad.

  • 03:21

KIRSTEN: But it's so much information,I have no idea what to do with it all.

  • 03:24

SPEAKER 4: Think about it this way.All you have to do is show them that you understandwhat the current research is, and howyour project fits into it.

  • 03:31

KIRSTEN: But it's a ton of material.I could write an entire paper about all this material. But the whole proposal is only two pages.

  • 03:38

SPEAKER 4: You don't have to defend the entire worldof the research.Just give them the context that theyneed so they can make sense of what you're doing.

  • 03:47

    KIRSTEN: OK.

  • 03:47

SPEAKER 4: Then show them that there'sa reason to do your project.Show them that there's a hole in the researchthat your project can potentially fill.

  • 03:56

KIRSTEN: I don't even know if my project's going to work.

  • 03:58

SPEAKER 4: Of course not, you haven't done the research yet.Just show them that your project can potentially move the ballfurther down the field.

  • 04:06

KIRSTEN: Can I just say that no one has ever done anythinglike my project before?

  • 04:11

SPEAKER 4: Show them the research that does exist, and how your project is different.Don't just say it doesn't exist.

  • 04:19

KIRSTEN: OK.That doesn't sound so bad.

  • 04:21

SPEAKER 4: Yeah, it's not like the booksare going to attack you.

  • 04:24

    KIRSTEN: What?

  • 04:26

ALVIN: Oh, cool igloo, Kirsten.Who are you talking to?

  • 04:32

KIRSTEN: Did you see a guy in a hot dog suit?

  • 04:34

ALVIN: No, but I did once see a guy wearingnothing but silver body paint riding a unicycle.

  • 04:53

KIRSTEN: Who are you talking to?

  • 04:55

    GUILIANA: No one.

  • 04:57

ALVIN: Good.Because Kirsten was talking to a giant hot dog, and doyou have any idea how terrible hotdogs are for you?Ow.[MUSIC PLAYING]
