How To Access Sage Research Methods

Library and Institutional Access

Most access to Sage Research Methods is gained through library or institutional purchase or subscription. If your library or institution has purchases or subscribed to a product in the Sage Research Methods suite, then access may be granted via a number of possible routes, set up by the library. 

IP Authentication

A library or institution may set up access via a set IP range. this means that, for example, while within the library or university campus access would be granted automatically.

OpenAthens and Shibboleth Authentication

A library or institution may set up access via OpenAthens or Shibboleth. To login via this route on a laptop or desktop click 'Institution' in the top right hand corner of the page, then click either OpenAthens or Shibboleth.

Clicking OpenAthens will take you to the OpenAthens login page, where you can follow the on screen instructions to login. Clicking Shibboleth will display a list of institutions who have set up access via this route. Find your institution and select it, then follow the on screen instructions.

On mobiles and tablets the same options can be found in the main menu accessed at the top left of all pages.

Free Trial Access

If you have an individual username and password through a trial, you will need to login to access the site. From a laptop or desktop click 'Institution' in the top right hand corner of the page, enter your username and password and click 'login'.

Username and Password Authentication

If you are an individual with a username and password from Sage (or if your institution has given you credentials) you will need to login. From a laptop or desktop click 'Institution' in the top right hand corner of the page, enter your username and password and click 'login'.

My Profile

Sage Research Methods gives you the opportunity to access some extra features once you a user profile. A user profile is separate from how you actually get access to the content in the site. If you have access, you can then create a profile for free.

A profile allows you to create Reading Lists, and Save Searches for later.

My Reading Lists

User generated Reading Lists are available to search and browse from the Research Tools menu at the top of the page. These lists are all generated by users of Sage Research Methods. To create a list you must create and login to a profile. Once you have done this you can create reading lists and decide whether to make them public or private. Public lists can be searched and browsed by any user of Sage Research Methods - great if you want to share useful content with a group!

Saved Searches

You can save searches that you've run for future use. To save a search you must create and login to a profile. Once you have done this you can save any search that you've conducted on a laptop or desktop by clicking the 'Save' button at the top of the right hand rail. On mobile and tablet this can be done via the 'tools' menu.
