Abstract

This dataset example introduces researchers to one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). One-way ANOVA allows researchers to test the differences between means for a particular variable across two or more groups. This example uses a subset of data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998–99 (ECLSK) at the National Center for Education Statistics to examine whether math performance in kindergarten is predicted by family income in the United States. Analysis like this might help researchers and policy makers better understand early childhood education.

In this example, readers are introduced to the basic theory and assumptions underlying this technique, the type of question this technique can be used to answer, and how to produce and report results. The sample dataset has been cleaned and organized ...
