Abstract

Collection and analysis of data from adverse event reports indicating exposures through product use or consumption can help identify potential public health concerns and opportunities for prevention. Although these steps may appear straightforward, they can present novel problems that require decisions impacting the utility of the research findings. This case study examines data and analytic challenges encountered and addressed in conducting surveillance research on caffeinated energy drink adverse events.
