A Thematic Analysis of Interviews With Women With Breast Cancer

Abstract

This case explains how the first author effectively used the method of thematic analysis to analyze qualitative interview data in a research project examining aspects of survivorship of women with breast cancer in the United Kingdom. In this case, we focus on describing the data collection process (ethical approval, recruitment, and sampling) and the steps underlying the thematic analysis. Then, we illustrate the method with one main theme: “Experiences with Prostheses, Breast Reconstruction and Clothing.” In the end, we provide some guidelines on how the method of thematic analysis can be used with cancer survivorship interview data.
