Alternative News Media

While alternative news media has existed in print form since the 17th century, economic barriers long associated with production and distribution became largely alleviated in the 21st century with the advent of electronic technologies, enabling less well-funded alternative news media to expand in prominence and reach. Broadly defined, the term alternative news media refers to a heterogeneous range of media and journalistic practices identified by how alternative news media structure, function, and processes differ from those of traditional news media.
