The National Household Education Surveys Program (NHES) is a series of nationally representative telephone surveys of households in the United States sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. The chief purpose of the surveys is to describe the educational activities and experiences of young children, school-age children, and adults. The NHES program conducts several surveys in three main topic areas: (1) adult education, (2) school-age children's education, and (3) education and care of young children. One of the most widely reported estimates from the NHES is the number of children being homeschooled in the United States.
